.... it would not be so scalding if it weren't so true.... and you definitely spoke the truth....

.... let us pray that we get a president after Bush who craves killing Bad Guys.... and that Musharraf doesn’t get assassinated until at least 2040....

Marg bar Ahmadinejad.

Posted by Elisson at January 18, 2007 12:09 AM

It's too bad it's not as simple as you present it, "it's the war of Islam versus the Infidels."

If it were only that, I would be grateful.

But, it's not...

And the longer that people refuse to accept that it is not that simple is the longer that we fight the wrong War.

If we are using Newtonian Physics we will lose against those who are using Quantum Mechanics.

I cannot say it any more clearly or ugently, but unfortunately, the vast majority will not understand, through a deliberate refusal or through a stubbornness that served the US in the past, but is doing incredible damage now.

Sigh...

Posted by Jack at January 18, 2007 2:18 AM

You're right, Jack. How un-nuanced of me. It's also Islam vs. Islam in some areas. No major conflagration on the planet does not have Muslims on at least one side. What would you call that? A big fucking Misunderstanding?

Posted by velociman at January 18, 2007 8:56 AM

Just to make sure I've got this Jack....

USA=Newtonian Physics
Islamists=Quantum Mechanics

Fantastic analogy considering some of the nations of Islam still don't understand the concept of plumbing.

Although there is a large part of me that considers making women servants, and requiring of them silence very appealing.

Well said my friend, well said.

Apocalypse.....kinda just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it?

I don't care. Just gimme my tax refund check...NOW!

Posted by bitterman at January 18, 2007 11:47 AM

Ya'll quit picking on Jack now, he is sighing.

Posted by james old guy at January 18, 2007 1:35 PM

Would the Jacks of this world just have us quit? Lay down arms, and accept whatever comes our way? Talk about head-in-the-sand (no pun intended).

Them boys ain't gonna quit. Not until they've won.

Or lost.

And that, Jack, is, indeed, how simple it is.

Posted by mike at January 18, 2007 3:55 PM

Please, speak these words to me in person someday, to the jellification of my kneecaps.

You so got it goin' on, brother.

Jess smokin'.

Posted by Erica at January 18, 2007 3:58 PM

When I read posits such as those from Jack, I have to ask myself, what the hell is so difficult to understand about the threat that is Islamofascism? Hell, even the pajama wearing imams and UBL are pretty fucking up front about it.

Posted by Raging Patriot at January 18, 2007 5:12 PM

You are so totally on it!! I just don't understand the 'cut our losses'; I wonder what it will take for others to see?

Posted by Michele at January 18, 2007 6:50 PM

Hell. I didn't even know Jack was still around.

So, just exactly 'sigh' is this point he's trying to make?

Anyone got a guess?

I'll take first shot:

"The point I'm trying to make, you...you..Amerikans...is that it is YOU, that has brought this scourge upon the world. It's your vanity; the 4" stilletto heals...the botox...the breast enhancements...the gay designers...that have brought Islam to its breaking point. From the moment that Britney showed her cooch to the world...it's been GAME ON! We will not be seduced into your evil ways!!!!"

Posted by jmflynny at January 18, 2007 7:12 PM

LOL Flynny! Really, you should blog more often. Like me.

I like the comic relief. Check it out, brought Jack out of hiding. And me. And I see where Jack is coming from.

Because I've often wondered about color-blind people. I hear they see green as red.

Now that is freaky. We all know it's green. Majority rules, and we see green. So there.

But what if we're wrong? What if they're right? Just because they are in the minority doesn't mean they're wrong! What if we are wrong? What if green IS red?

See Jack, dahling, this is what happens when we overthink shit.

Velociman, you have a lovely way with words.

BTW I am not going to learn the Arabic spelling of Allahu Akhbar! Why? Oh they'll shoot me or stone me or something way before we get to that stage for not wearing my burkha.

No, Bush will be remembered, always, as the bungler he is. This war will be fought in Iran, Syria, possibly Saudi Arabia and in Africa. Bush will be shown to have blindly followed his advisors - the PNAC boys - without asking the question about what threat does Iraq pose to us, even if they DO have WMD? The answer then, and now, is none.

The Afghan dust-up was simply the pre-game stretch. The only way the west will win this thing is to have small, mobile, aggressive and deadly groups deployed around the world that come in and obliterate one cell at a time, then move on to the next. Kinda like what we're now doing in Somalia. Islamic Fundamentalist Cleansing Through Tomahawk (tm).

In Iraq, we're trying to kill a house full of cockroaches with one big elephant stomping around. Unless we're willing to destroy the whole house, it will never work. And even if you did take everything down, the cockroaches will just move on to the next house.

History will be brutal to the chimp.

Posted by The Other Mike S at January 19, 2007 6:01 PM

wow, vmon. thanks for your eloquent words, again.

and i must say, about the other mike s's comment, i've noticed a lefty talking point lately is how harshly history will view george bush. there are still two years left in his term. what is the obsession from the left on writing history before it's occurred all about? anyone?

Posted by shoe at January 20, 2007 10:59 AM

Still: We have all those nukes.

Posted by og at January 20, 2007 11:56 AM

As always V-Man you nailed it. Thanks for a good read.

Posted by WolfDog at January 20, 2007 12:08 PM

A "lefty" talking point? Cutting. I thought the post concerned conjecture regarding Bush's legacy.

Would your talking point be from the "water carrier" perspective?

Posted by The Other Mike S at January 20, 2007 12:33 PM

We're so beautiful, we're all gonna die someday... Would this be a good time to join an evangelical church just in case there really is a rapture?

Posted by Libby at January 20, 2007 11:49 PM

The Other Mike S-- A beautiful analogy about the elephant and the cockroaches.

I will, however, be forced to call the Anti-defamation league on you for comparing Muslims to cockroaches.

Posted by The Other Other White Meat at January 22, 2007 8:52 AM

Nooooooo! There's a Roach Motel line in there somewhere, but I just can't get it to gel.

Posted by The Other Mike S at January 22, 2007 3:30 PM

American are usually depicted as childish and simpletons here, in Europe. Well, you certainly do play quite well the role.

Obviously you do have a limited knowledge of Islam and ignore alltogether the complexities of this world.

Bush will be remembered as a war criminal that invaded a country that had not attacked him and created a major disaster in the Middle East. I think it is quite possible that we see him before the International Penal Court.

The comparison you draw between Bush and the isolationists or Churchill is absurd. As is your pretence that politics is just white noise.

Your writing is offensive and racist and you should apologize to all the people of Islamic faith, specially to the 4.500.000 Americans that do believe in Allah.

As more enlightened Americans are saying these days, the war in Irak is over, and the winner is Iran. Thanks to Mr. Bush. I can't believe there is still someone in the US who swallow his lies these days.

The world is a strange place, and the US influence is extremely important for me. New players are rising, and will compete for supremacy and none of them are as compromised with democracy and human rights as America. Too bad your president has decided to waste the resources and the credibility of the American people in such a despicable agression.

Sorry to remind you of this, but the forces of ignorance, brutality, intolerance, and cruelty have been for most of the last 60 years the US army, who invented or supported Somoza, Pol Pot, Pinochet, the Sha (after killing Mossadeqh, rmemeber?), etc. etc. and above them all, Sadam Hussein. Islam, as far as I remember had nothing to do with their/your crimes.

Posted by javier at January 23, 2007 6:26 AM

Javier, enjoy dhimmitude!

Posted by og at January 23, 2007 11:05 PM

Geez Javier. Must he apologize to all muslims, personally, because, I mean, that could take while. Of course, if he held rallies around the country, kind of like a rock band, or an evangelist...OH! I know what to do.

He could co-opt a name from another famous touring act; The Billy Graham Crusade. (Oops! Sorry. I didn't mean to drop the word 'CRUSADE' in there on you. I hope I didn't offend your delicate sensibilities.) But, I can see it now...The Velociman and his Jawja Bloggers Majical Mystery Crusade. (DAMN! Sorry. It just slipped out again.)

And, well, if he opened the tour in Detroit...

Posted by jmflynny at January 24, 2007 8:00 AM

History always takes the long view, and all this infighting is just the way we do things here in America. Our favorite pastime is bitching about the Government. Javier can suck the hind tit because we just don't care about what the rest of the world thinks.
Bush took a stick and stirred the cesspool that is the Middle East. Got Sunnis and Shittes focused on each other and off of the West. Jihadis are flocking to Iraq to be killed, which is always a plus in my book. The Middle East incubated this murderous ideology, let them stew in it. They should have stamped it out before it got too big for them to control. My sympathy meter is pegged at zero.
I like the cut of your jib, V-man.
