The Cicadas Are Back
17-year life cycle, they say. They stay buried for years until it is their moment.
I've never seen the actual creature, the locust, in all my years. Merely the shells, the husks. I'm not sure where the locusts go. Possibly to plague the Egyptians. Something certainly needs to. Tensions must be high in the inner sanctum of the Israeli Defense Forces. They now have to simultaneously plan for a war with Iran while putting the hurt on irridentist Egyptians in the Sinai.
The Israelis are not looking forward to this fight, but I am. As a bit of an all-consuming locust myself, I'm ready to see them get it on.
In an early Dave Barry column he asserted that the locusts came up every 17 years to see if Nixon had been indicted yet.

My ears are ringing when I come inside after a while out in the mesquite bosque. They are dense enough that I see plenty, buzzing and blatting and bumping into me when I disturb their perch while walking amidst the trees.
