A few words and phrases I have added to my Dead Pool for 2010 in faint hope of their imminent demise:
1. Lawyer up
2. Amour propre
3. Conflate
4. Doxology
5. Teabagging
6. Mash up
7. Hide the decline
8. Put me some knowledge
9. Not so much
10. Unprecedented
11. First African-American (fill-in-the-blank)
12. Man-caused disasters
13. Religion of peace
14. Health care reform
15. Dead pool
I have a million more, but I'd rather read your nominations at the January assizes of the Court of Peeves, Crotchets, & Irks, with all due apologies to James J. Kilpatrick.
*Any and all golf double entendres re Tiger Woods.
*using "ask" as a noun
*teachable moment*
*____ summit
*any and all transmogrification of Obama's name
*"let me be clear" (it has now become a euphemism for "I'm lying to you.")
- Using "learning" as a noun.
- Hearing "The system worked." Unless it's a reference to my digestive system.
BTW, "assizes" is such a beautiful word, referring as it does not only to a judicial inquest or proceeding, but to the manifold dimensions of multitudinous buttocks.
Posted by: Elisson at January 5, 2010 9:26 PMIs #7 like hide the salami?
For #11, is it too late for President Hussein to be the first a-hole? If so, how about the leading a-hole?
Posted by: Cappy at January 5, 2010 10:07 PMYou wanna 86 the term "teabagging?"
God damn it.......and just when I was getting good at sneaking up on the missus while she slept.
Posted by: Andy at January 5, 2010 10:51 PMMy ultra lib neighbor has been given his two free-fers. He is aware that the next time he calls me a "Teabagger" he will be shitting teeth. I told him that as I didn't call him vile sexual names in front of his kids I wouldn't stand for him doing it either. He now knows that if it happens again, they will watch as he gets the crap kicked out of him. Maybe it's time for people like "Tingles" Matthews to get their asses kicked for doing it. By asses kicked, I mean for someone to get behind him and as forcefully as possible repeatedly apply the toe of his boot to Tingles' ample posterior.
Posted by: Gerry N. at January 5, 2010 11:23 PMWhat about "At the end of the day...". I want to strangle all who use this line.
Posted by: pman at January 5, 2010 11:41 PMGerry N: After you have finished with his teeth, please deliver a swift kick to his tiny teabag. Thanks :)
Posted by: PeggyU at January 6, 2010 2:39 AMHow about "the (fill in the blank) process?" The vetting process....the election process...the waiting process...the poor elocution process...the being an asshole process. We are a nation obsessed with process.
Posted by: Erica at January 6, 2010 9:01 AMMy biggie is "I'll be honest with you...".
So, what, you've been lying to me all the rest of the time?
Posted by: doubletrouble at January 6, 2010 9:44 AMThe only one that's been getting on my nerves lately is "sustainability."
Posted by: Alex at January 6, 2010 11:21 AM'Make no mistake', I wish Bam would be 'perfectly' clear just once.
There is the old standard, 'We'll have to agree to disagree', which to my knowledge has never been uttered by a conservative.
Posted by: james wilson at January 6, 2010 12:23 PMHere are a couple of mine:
1- _______ czar
2- Move forward
3- Run it up the flagpole
4- Resilience/wake/Katrina
Oh, I'm not done with "hide the decline" just yet. Not until Al Gore is publicly pilloried for his mendacity.
"going forward"
"under the bus"
"task" (verb)
You and I need to "bone up" on number twelve...if I remember correctly, the last time we had a practice run...it was a blast.
Posted by: Yabu at January 7, 2010 8:19 AMGood list. Please include Transparency and Gravitas.
Posted by: Gerry From Valpo at January 7, 2010 8:21 AMThe very idea. Whining about a collection of consonants and vowels while children are eating each other in Detroit.
Idiom fags, each and every one of you. Shame. Now send me money.
Posted by: bitterman at January 7, 2010 12:08 PM"Stimulus" and "bailout" ... I would like not to ever hear those again, please.
Posted by: PeggyU at January 7, 2010 1:09 PM"Not to the best of my knowledge."
"This is not a problem, this is an opportunity for innovation."
Posted by: Les at January 7, 2010 2:23 PMpman, I'm with you. End of the Day must end.
erica, I'm offended by the indiscriminate use of the term 'vetting'. Where I tend bar, to 'vet' indicates to all involved that a complete and thorough exam performed by a thorough and qualified individual has occurred.
These MSM fuckers incorrectly use vetting as a synonym for a shitty Wiki search. The MSM are wild ass guessers, no science or math required.
And another thing, why is 'people of color' OK, and 'colored people' is not OK?
Ace, if you are reading, I'm leaning towards Indonesian Imbecile as this month's go-to descriptor.
Posted by: dr kill at January 7, 2010 2:43 PMI don't believe I indicated in what context I used vetting, except that it is "a process." This is why I no longer blog. Bowel-scraping and eye-gauging hold more appeal for me at this point.
Posted by: Erica at January 8, 2010 1:48 PMAthletisism, every time I hear some hack sportscaster utter this non-word I cringe. Another waste of air is " they control their own destiny" Destiny is by nature a controlling factor out of the control of mortal man.
And what's up with Transperent? That seems to have become the buzz word of the decade.
And besides, my "hide the decline" t-shirt arrived today.
