The Man in the Lavender Automobile

There is a scene in Flannery O'Connor's 1960 novel The Violent Bear It Away, wherein the protagonist, a 14-year-old boy, is picked up hitchhiking by a man in a lavender automobile. The man plies the boy, Francis Tarwater, with whiskey and reefer. When the boy wakes up he's lying in a field with his pants around his ankles, and his asshole burning. I won't get into the Catholic allegory in that story, or the implication that the man in the lavender automobile is Satan, or Tarwater's own inexorable slide into fundamentalist prophecy. I will aver, however, that I find the story relevant. Hold that thought.

There have been any variety of temperaments and personalities to hold the office of President. They range from heroes to rapscallions. I fervently believe, however, that not one person to hold that office has ever hated his opposition. There have been the churlish and disdainful, for sure. Carter presumed a moral vanity against his foes, which grievance he nurtures to this day. Nixon was consumed by paranoia and fear, to the point of ridiculous capers in the cause of an aforetold landslide victory.

I mention this because I firmly believe Barack Obama absolutely loathes my kind. This man will not be content to win the presidency. He will spend his waking hours thereafter not pursuing the legitimate goals of state, but punishing those who would dare to oppose him. The man is devoid of humility, or any sense of humor. He cannot humbly accept his incredibly lucky break in the crapshoot of American politics. The absolute lack of any pushback or intercessions on the part of the journalist class has rendered him peckish and intolerant of any dissention, if indeed he was not born that way.

This man truly hates. As only someone who is quite aware of his great shortcomings can hate. And like the second monkey he can hear, or tolerate, no evil.

The inevitability of Barack Obama has rendered the sane lycanthropic, the skeptical bemused, the disputatious fearful. It is no coincidence that formerly reliable conservative pundits are jumping the McCain ship like bilge rats in a galley fire. Most people attribute this craven capitulation to elitism. Noonan, Frum, Chris Buckley, that dithering Converse finishing school twit Kathleen Parker, they're elitists! No, they're not. Or that's not what is compelling them. They are fucking afraid. Afraid to be the last dissenting voice in the face of the Hope and Change juggernaut. The Chinese kid versus the tanks in Tiannamen they are not. They are elitists, but they are cowards first and foremost. We don't need them. And, unfortunately for them, Obama doesn't need them. Therefore I will speak their names no more.

An aside, for which I invoke the demigod of artistic license:

I had a dream, a goal, by the way: After living on some nice wooded property in the North Georgia foothills I've abrogated my lifelong desire to retire on a yawl or passagemaker in Florida. (Actually living in Florida for ten years helped me here. I became claustrophobic on the tiny footprint I could afford in Florida and still be within a bike ride of the ocean. And if you are not within a bike ride of the ocean in Florida you're basically in a scrub oak hell zone of sinkholes, funky water, and low rent Yankee pensioners). Thus my dream: to retire on a barking loud stream in the North Georgia mountains, there to develop a sustainable existence.

I still have this dream, I merely mention it because I do not have the luxury of a five year timeline anymore. I am not a reactionary person by nature, but trust me when I say the first 100 days of a Barack Obama presidency will bring holy hell upon those who adhere to a classical liberal philosophy. This man is a radical of the first stripe, and he has left no stone unturned in his quest. He has not committed voter fraud in the good old fashioned way. He has a vast network of ACORN operatives stealing votes through fraudulent means by the hundreds of thousands. This man has not committed campaign finance fraud in the good old fashioned way, squirrelling away Chinese monies like Bill Clinton. This cocksucker actually disabled his credit card verification system to allow tens of millions of illegal dollars to flow into his coffers from any number of enemies of the state. The droid army of the legacy press is aware of this, of course, but who wants to be the whistleblower once this man assumes power? No one. No fucking body. Wouldn't be prudent at this fucking juncture, as 41 might say.

Did I mention this man hates me? You and me? Yes he does. Why? Because he can. Yes He Can. Beneath that cool persona is a megalomaniac. Cool? Like Stalin after a purge, emotionally and sexually spent. Like Saddam after a torture session, dozing in his chair with someone's genitals curled in his fist. Like Pol Pot after a petit mal seizure, mumbling a litany of the dead. Cool that way.

So I will cast my pathetic vote, and ramp up my relocation to the mountains. Reduce my footprint. Carbon? That will be a nice byproduct, but I mean my personal footprint. My credit footprint. My interface with authority footprint. I'm researching micro-hydro water turbines for that stream, windmills for water, a half-acre patch for vegetables, a few goats, and a bison. Just because I want a fucking bison. My address? Fifty rounds up that gravel road.

I do hate to sound Randy Weaverish. But this is the fundament of my world view right now.

Speaking of fundaments, remember that guy in the lavender automobile?

Precisely. The whiskey of Hope. The jokesmoke of Change. I am Tarwater. We are all Tarwater.

Damn straight. Well said, and not over the top, unfortunately.

Buenos Aires was looking good to the JR and me, except they're going tits up, too. We can live under the radar in Mexico quite easily, however. The drug cartels are more merciful to the peons than the government.

"The Peoples' Guide to Mexico" is a good book to go along with the Firefox series.

Good luck and God bless us, every one.

I have been fantasizing about hiding out in Idaho ... up in the hills where nobody goes. A little place near a hot spring would be sweet! My mom is gardening and canning like crazy for just such a hunker down time. Sometimes I do miss home.

And NO VMan, you do not want a fucking bison! Not unless you enjoy stringing fence and having the neighbors pissed at you. They are much more trouble than they are worth. I think when they were loose and huntable that would have been fine and dandy. They are not particularly containable, so save yourself the trouble and buy one already butchered and wrapped.

Posted by: PeggyU at October 24, 2008 4:18 AM

Holy smokes ... after reading what you wrote, I stumbled across this. Gee, maybe you're not far off the mark there on that retaliation reference. I want to know: How does it end? Does Tarwater exact his pound of flesh?

I hope you're good at vegetables; I've been cultivating my little (VERY little) patch of earth for a few years now, and for every season where I was drowning in cucumbers (really good cukes, but really, how many can one family eat??), I've had a season like this one where I managed to put up ONE jar of tomatoes and, no matter how many times I planted beans, something ate them before they were more than two leaves high. Sigh.

I don't want us to be like the whiny fools in 2000 and 2004 who were all going to emigrate if Bush won. But I admit it does seem to me as if the stakes are somewhat higher now than in either of those elections; there was never any chance Bush was going to try even to stifle dissent, much less silence it utterly. Sigh again.

I moved to the Red Hill area on 73 acres a mile off a dirt road back in 1990. I was a few years early and I'd bought it back in '84 when we were worried about the Russians. Lost it two years ago. Better have plenty of change, both silver and gold and Brass and lead. Don't count on the mini hydro plant unless you find a really good stream with lots of fall. Solar panels will produce more year around in our area.

I'm going to miss coffee when the system starts to fail. I mean I can always find food as long as there are mexicans about (I read Leviticus and can't find anything about not eating them)but clean water and some java will be in short supply. My two angels under my roof will not take well to all this and I'll most likely end up dead after killing a uppity negro after he tries to cop a feel.

Before you join the Ron Paul supporters and go merrily a-gulching, you may want to take a step back and think about this post in a more detached way, if you can.

-Obama hates you. Yes, you, personally. He feels threatened by you and will surely kill or enslave you if elected.
-The media is engaging in a massive conspiracy of silence and will stop at nothing to get Obama elected, otherwise he will punish them... once he's elected. Does this not strike you as at all circular?
-If a conservative pundit opposes Obama it is not because of ideology, but because they are honest and courageous in standing up to the liberal menace. If a conservative pundit supports Obama, it is not because of disagreements with McCain's campaign or genuine agreement with Obama's policies, but because they are despicable cowards who hate America.

You seem to be wary of the Manichean worldview of some Obama supporters - a fair criticism, and one that many on the left would do well to heed. Your solution, however, seems to be to take the same view and simply flip the poles around - this strikes me as massively wrongheaded. Worse still, your breathless fantasy of living off the grid as the world collapses around you is the worst kind of Randian just-watch-you'll-be-sorry masturbation.

"They are fucking afraid. Afraid to be the last dissenting voice in the face of the Hope and Change juggernaut"

This post says everything there is to know about today's Republicans: that you aren't even to accept that other people could feel differently than you. If people are "jumping ship", look at why they might be doing it, see what's wrong with the message on the other side. Instead, you blame it on a kind of fearful conformity, as though no one could possibly disagree with you idealogically.

Look at Peter Wehner's column today in the Washington Post. Twice as many people in this country identify themselves as conservative than liberal, and yet Obama's message has struck a chord. Try to analyze that as a thinking person instead of just believing that there's some rash and petty reason that that's happening.

Posted by: Norville at October 27, 2008 8:07 AM

Truly bonkers. Still, if Obama (who is no more left than most centre-right leaders in the rest of the world; but you yanks don't care much for the rest of the world do you? pity.) does get elected it will have the added benefit of sending nutbags like you to the hills for the forseeable future; there to remain like Japanese soldiers on tropical atolls for decades after the war was over fighting battles in their heads.

Any comparison between the brainless fools giving this kind of trash support and the truly reasoned arguments for conservatism as laid out by Barry Goldwater is at the very best misled; and at the very worst dangerous.

My generation thinks of conservatives as backwards-thinking, regressive, government-expanding morons who think more to tear down an opponent than build another one up. Gee, I wonder where they could've gotten that idea?

Question: Are you one of those guys that talks about Bush Derangement Syndrome? That would be funny...

I suspect you're unlikely to get the help you need. So, the only way you'll realize the errors you're making is when you come down from the mountain after 8 years. You'll discover that NONE of the terrors you've written about have come to pass.
That there were none of the imagined purges, that nobody ( particularly Barack Obama ) really hated you or your kind. That Barack wasn't a crazed radical or, for that matter, the savior of our nation. Rather, he was a particularly gifted politician that managed to attract and hold the attention of his own party and 10% of the opposition, which is enough to attain power. Like Reagan in that respect. That the Democratic party managed to push through a few of its progressive plans, but generally bickered amongst itself once in power. In 8 years time, the House of Representatives will probably have moved back to Republican control. Who knows, Palin might even be the presidential election frontrunner, thought I doubt it. More likely Huckabee, he's not nuts.

You'll find that you went up into the Georgia hills, were forgotten, and the world moved on without you. Honestly, if the "worst case scenario" that we liberals desire comes to pass, you might even have health care when you come down. The Horrors!

I imagine you'll think about how your delusion caused you to waste much effort and time. How eventually you'll come to the conclusion that it was worth it to find some moderation and a more fact-based world outlook. I suspect you'll even find that living sustainably is its own reward.

More likely, however, you're a coward and you're not leaving. Rather, you're just a douchebag blowhard and will still be posting excrement to your blog in 109 days.

Do us all a favor. Man up, head for the hills and let the adults take over. Come back down in 8 years when you've grown up.

Flannery O'Connor just wrote fiction but you are living in fiction and bad novel fiction at that. We on the other side of the fence had to put up with President Incompetent Bush for 8 years so you just suck it up for President Obama if that's who we elect. Unless you are a weak, whiny kind of citizen who can't face America's choice for President. Real Americans support America and America is a democracy about to make a choice. You don't like the way America chooses it's leader? Maybe you belong somewhere else and I don't mean the north Georgia foothills. Endnote: You can't be taken seriously about Obama's "hate" when your writing oozes such over the top hate. Now if you had some facts or logic on your side. Oops, I forgot about your kind's disabilities. So sorry.

Hope you enjoy your time in the hills - I for one am looking forward to the first 100 days of the Obama presidency.

I kind of liked your rant. Largely because a one-para summary of it is as follows:

'We, paranoid extremist conservatives, hereby concede that the Republican party's candidate will lose the upcoming Presidential election. It goes without saying that we will not give a moment's thought to the actual policies and practices of the incumbent Republican president that might have turned voters away from our party; we are too consumed with a self-immolating fear, rage and hatred towards our Democratic opponent. The ideas that voters could have rationally turned away from us and towards our opponents, or that there could be any genuine policy lessons to be learned in the impending defeat, are too absurd to require a moment's contemplation. We will instead assiduously devote the next 3 months to working ourselves into a lather, each trying to outdo the last, about the apocalyptic evil about to be loosed upon the world under an Obama presidency'.

Believe me, you have been Tarwater, er, we all have for the past 8 years. C'mon, more radical than the current administration? Where has your head been? Droid army? Surely you speak of Hannity, Limbaugh, Kristol and your ilk as the msm has been more than complicit to spout right-leaning talking points for the whole campaign...while America for once, turns its back on all of you and votes, with actual common fucking sense...the policies of your team have proven to be morally, financially and wholeheartedly wrong...reduce your footprint please, yes do. And as you all circle the firing squad to point and scream "why?" Us, the elite, laugh. G'bye right, nice knowing ya. We'll have our country now.

ROFL. Can you say "projection?"

One the very coolest things about this point in this election cycle is that folks like you are going broadly public with your own hatred and paranoia. The minority of the Republic Party who hate like you do are making their weirdness visible to the general public and may never have the support of an administration again.

Posted by: Splendid One at October 27, 2008 10:08 AM

"I mention this because I firmly believe Barack Obama absolutely loathes my kind. This man will not be content to win the presidency. He will spend his waking hours thereafter not pursuing the legitimate goals of state, but punishing those who would dare to oppose him."

This is an incredible statement, one that demands for its colossal assertions some, any kind of demonstrable proof. As orgasmic as it must have felt for you to punch out this torrent of words on your keyboard, without anything to back them up, the only proof they offer is an example of extreme lunacy. QED.

I imagine Obama, like me, would merely be really creeped out by you rather than "loathe" you. And can I compare you to Stalin, just because I am in the mood to do that? Like you were in the mood to do that with Obama (our next president)? Would that be too disputatious? Too jejeune? Lugubrious? Sesquipedalian?

odd that you place your own prejudice and hate for Obama, onto him. He comes from a place and has experienced a hope, you simply cannot understand. He doesnt hate you. Your "sexual rant" is disturbed and depraved. My guess is you're also a narcissist but that's the least of your problems.

Get help. Soon. Fast.

The idea that you're brand of conservatism is the "right" brand has been dragging conservative groups down for years. You give Republicans and/or Libertarians a bad name.

So yeah, run to the hills... "flee" and be terrified. Let the rest of the non-crazies rebuild the party and actually do something positive for a change since my doubt is that you've done nothing but rant since you were eligible to vote. What have you done to make your "party," your ideology, or your country better?

"He will spend his waking hours thereafter not pursuing the legitimate goals of state, but punishing those who would dare to oppose him."

Where have you been the last 8 years? I guess stomping on the Constitution, engaging in criminal and immoral behavior, lying while in office, bloating our budget and wrecking our economy qualifies as being a "rapscallion?" Or maybe that's "heroic" behavior?

You're absolutely bonkers and just as bad as the left-wing looney tooners. Good riddance.

Red in Missouri.

Posted by: Dude at October 27, 2008 11:36 AM

You are having what is called in medical terms, a cognitive distortion. You are seeing the world through the eyes of a paranoid delusion of feeling persecuted and it is affecting the way you see yourself and others. A lot of people suffer from this…but are able to lead productive lives without having to go into deep therapy. However, you seem to have allowed this mental illness to progress to the point of having almost no cognitive reasoning at all.

And more disturbing…you are feeding other people’s fears of being persecuted. And you are attributing other conservative’s reasons to backing Obama to them being afraid also. This, above everything else I read in this rant, shows how truly ill you have become. To suggest that someone like Colin Powell would be afraid of someone like Obama is so far outside the realm of possibilities that it renders your argument moot. And more importantly, it shows that you have become so unhinged that you see persecution everywhere.

It is understandable to fear the unknown. But it is not reasonable to feel that this unknown is out to get you. For your sake I would seek deep therapy as soon as I could. These delusions rarely fix themselves and in fact only get worse with time. And I would hope that after reading some of these responses to your post…others here would seek help too. It is so unhealthy to let such hate permeate your psyche.

And the really sad thing is…if Sen. Obama does come to harm, the people who whipped everyone up will look surprised and say…”Who…me?”

Posted by: N2sleepingN at October 27, 2008 11:37 AM

Posted by: cevian at October 27, 2008 12:14 PM

Note to my fellow Obama supporters flooding this dude's comments - I think I've just figured out a factor that's in some small part responsible for all this unhinged, irrational and proof-deprived vitriol: We finally have a candidate a lot of people actually like, in his policies, his temperament, plans and personal rectitude. These rabid Far Right Radicals are not used to Democrats not settling for Clinton, Gore, Kerry types that might have fundamental flaws, can't run a campaign, can't not say the wrong thing. People who care about their country might finally have somebody who will win, and with a sizable and verifiable popular and electoral vote.

I'll say it - these bozos and bullies only care about power and smug self-satisfaction. They don't care about America. Rather than oppose President Obama with legitimate and necessary critical observation, they'll continue their tantrums and bellow their proof-less and baseless accusations with no other goal in mind but childish and churlish destruction. There will NEVER be a point where they might admit Obama does the right thing for the country and as many citizens as possible. Because ultimately that's not their concern.

I knew Bush was wrong for us way before he demonized John McCain. But never did I hope, once he became President, that he would never do something right.

I'm sadly not shocked by the anti-American and unpatriotic views espoused by my fellow citizens like this blogger and his few followers.

Thank you, Andrew Sullivan, for this chance to meet the enemy and see the white of his eyes. I now know more than ever what we're up against. Please, folks, pick up the phone, call for Obama and GOTV.

Posted by: noisejoke at October 27, 2008 12:23 PM

I find it sad. I have a very good friend who is afraid of Obama too. I feel bad for him because he thinks that democrats are going to do the same things that republicans have been doing for years to us.

What's the difference between me and you?
Compassion for other humans.

Conservatism is a personality disorder much like Borderline Personality Disorder.

You live in this fantasy world were everything is intended to benefit you and only you. To hell with everyone else because they are out to get you if they don't agree.

Most conservatives I have met (and I know quite a few growing up between Rural Tennessee and North Florida) are seriously mentally ill, stupid, or misguided idealists.

Don't get me wrong we don't loathe people like you.

We pity you.

Posted by: n at October 27, 2008 12:27 PM

Perhaps someone would like to show us where Obama has kept all the bodies of his vanquished enemies.

Supposedly he is going to "payback" anyone who "dared" to oppose him... and yet, where is the history of this? He's my senator, and had he ACTUALLY practiced that kind of no-holds-barred politics, I would have supported him more. As it was, I voted for Edwards in the primary, and voted for Hillary delagates (since, by the time the primary reached Illinois, Edwards time in the horserace was over).

So could you perhaps back up your wild claims with reality? I would be interested to see it, although to tell you the truth it would simply make me like Obama more. As it is, I like him less and think you are completely wrong.

Posted by: JSG at October 27, 2008 12:35 PM

How sad for you, how toxic and how truly sad. We don't loathe you - we just have to keep ourselves safe from you and keep you safe from yourself.

Posted by: Maezeppa at October 27, 2008 12:36 PM

Wow, that was some paranoid stuff going on there. He's different than me, therefore he hates me? I guess you're right that it's obvious that republicans are not supporting McCain because they're afraid of Obama. I'm sure it has nothing to do with a 72 year old man picking the most clueless vice presidential candidate in history. I'm sure it has nothing to do with McCain's waffling during the biggest economic crisis in history. I'm sure it has nothing to do with McCain's parroting of the policies of the last eight years. I'm sure it has nothing to do with McCain's attempts at pandering to nut-cases like you pushing moderates away from the republican party. I'm sure it has nothing to do with McCain having no clear message in his campaign. I'm sure it has nothing to do with McCain wanting to continue spending $10b in Iraq while the economic situation here is about to explode. I'm sure it has nothing to do with any reasons that reflect reality. I'm sure you're right and it's just a bunch of scaredy cats afraid that evil Mr. Obama is going to crush them like little ants if they don't conform to his evil plans to destroy you.

It must be difficult trying to reconcile your paranoia with reality. I guess that's why you've chosen to ditch reality and blame some delusion for thoughtful people's motivation to disagree with you.

Don't ask me though. Ask these conservatives what they think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBLnwMbYmUw

Posted by: fernando at October 27, 2008 12:38 PM

By the way... if you are going to parrot the Rush Limbaugh talking points on ACORN... how about backing it up with proof?

If there are allegedly hundreds of thousands of people voting a hundred times a day... do you have a list of people doing this? The Republicans have been trying to make this claim during the past eight years, and have nothing to show for it. Aside from finding out that mAnn Coulter was registered to vote twice, that is... but that doesn't count. It was an accident, really!

Posted by: JSG at October 27, 2008 12:43 PM

After 8 years of power, you've shown us what you would do with it. For 8 years, *YOU'VE* been the man in the lavender car, raping the american dream and tossing it aside like a fucking predator tossing aside it's latest victim. Yeah, you're afraid. Reading that post (and the log-rolling first batch of comments) was like looking under a rock (and getting an "attaboy" in the comments from somebody who's been stocking up on gold and ammo ever since that Russian invasion scare we all remember from '84 -- I'm not sure that's really the endorsement you want unless you're running for Mayor of Crazytown).

Or else the whole post was just satire, although I think it's a little too over-the-top to be really good satire; it's impossible to imagine that there's really anyone out there with quite that combination of pretension ("for which I invoke the demigod of artistic license" -- rotflmao), dimly-grasped sexual hangups (what's your favorite caliber of handgun, btw?), and utter, mouth-breathing, going-out-in-the-rain-and-drowning stupidity.

Whoa dude! That's some bulbously psychotic dust you're spewing. Ah can tell yer having big fun throwing it out there to these mutually meat lovin, but likeably literate loons lingering about here. For all there should be a place, someone said, just not sure what kinda place this is, and Not sure how I arrived here in this hour and time - but lordy! Guess I sometimes forget what's really out there in the murky crevices back home. Make me laugh a little, but hurts my stomach too just smelling your self imposed weight of fear and angst. Like big gleaming pearls of poetically paranoic kidney stones you're trying to pass. Goodness dude, you do give new meaning to the notion of delusion. De darkie takin over, run for the hills, take cover in Mexico! Right out of a Mel Brooks script, but I cringe especially about the part about you going to Mexico. Thought that's why I go, to get away from ya'll. Ah well, you do enjoy yourselves, that's clear. But can't one of you just once admit that ya'll couldn't wait to sit down on that seductively shallow barstool next to W and share a white texas beer, and after he pissed in it with a goofy giggle for 8 years ya'll drank it right down anyway, just because he seemed like one of you (though I doubt he could decipher your excited metaphors and similes - not his forte, don't ya know?) And now that we're all wading in the galactic shitter he and his boys so cleverly wrought, we purveyors of torture and unilateral arrogance and now foreclosure foolery, bail-out bonhomie, now we're suppose to be afraid? 8 years too late dude, is your rage and fear. You ought to be thanking whatever invisible man you worship that someone with a well fed brain so much stronger and more finely tuned than yours or mine and with a clear inkling of how to use it is going to try and help you out of this mess. But nevermind, more entertaining to swim in fear it seems - just don't go and poison Mexico too. I'm on my way down there as we speak, but unlike you, with a big relieved smile (well, hopefully anyway - aint over yet) knowing that finally one with a deft and light touch - a real adult, at last - will be at the steering wheel. The rest of the world feels the same too, cept you boys clearly. Sorry ya'll er so scairt a de black man though. Always got to blame someone, seems like, for what wakes you in the night. The smart guys and gals on your team saw the reason and the easy sense of it. That make them traitors? Hmmm ... like stepping out of the way of a leaking fuel truck careening their way, seems to me. And that Palin twit...so much fun! But no need anymore to go there, praise be.

Adios, amigos, and don't be afraid. Just so curious though - Ya'll been knees to chin buggered up with a fire hydrant for the past 8 years, and now you're worried ? Guess it takes time to trust again. But pull your pants up now and grow up. The adults have arrived at last.

You're an idiot. Ok, maybe not an idiot, but delusional.
Have you been proud of these last eight years? Do you think that Bush and Cheney and Rummy and Brownie have done a bang-up job? Does torture and phone-tapping and e-mail snooping and arresting folks for wearing political t-shirts sound like positive things to you?
The entire globe was sympathetic towards the United States immediately after 9/11, and Bush managed to completely wreck any goodwill within the first 6 months. Remember "Mission Accomplished"? And that the administration lied about that banner for 5 years, only now admitting that they lied about it! Remember "Bring it on!", the challenge to the rest of the world to give us their best shot? And now, when Biden says there is a possiblity of a crisis in Obama's first six months, the GOP goes hysterical.
Eight years ago, I warned my friends that if Bush the idiot were elected, I was afraid of what he'd do to the country. I had horrible scenarios all laid out.
I was wrong.
It was much, much worse.
Enjoy fleeing to other countries, Republican fools. I'm sure you'll choose a country where they just adore Bush-loving Americans.

Obama is like stalin, saddam, and Pol Pot? It's easy to see why Americans are completely abandoning the GOP, if the GOP now consists of people who think like the author of this post.

Posted by: steve s at October 27, 2008 3:25 PM

Well, when the US is completely flushed down the crapper and all the super rich liberals have obtained citizenship in more tax friendly nations to avoid Bammy's tax hikes on the wealthy, we'll see how much in love so-called democrats are with Bar Ack. At least you'll have your free health care, abortions for everyone, and pedophiles marrying their 6 year old boyfriend. Liberal is another word for amoral. Mr. O'Bomber isn't left wing, he's a criminal and a liar. Here we go from a giant idiot to a giant crook. What's next? Make criticism of His Heinous illegal? He plays nice because he's got almost $200 million--and he wants to keep it. If he said what he really thought about things he might not look so pretty to all you kool-aid drinkers. I'll not be running to the hills though: this is really nothing new, a criminal taking the White House. The world spins on.

Astonishing. Simply astonishing.

Stalin. Pol Pot. Saddam Hussein. I'd like to give you credit for heavy-handed deployment of hyperbole, but the rest of the rant belies that even that level of wit.

You are aware, aren't you, that it was a member of the Bush Administration who opined that conceivably, the testicles of the young son of a suspected terrorist could justifiably be crushed if the President thought it necessary? Please direct us to the equivalent statements of Obama, I beg you. Crushing testicles is *definitely* Stalin & Saddam territory, and it seems to be more your kind of thing, not ours.

But perhaps that's the problem; maybe you've got a reason for fantasizing about crushed genitalia? Did Mommy use her teeth on your tender bits?

Posted by: Pierce at October 27, 2008 3:38 PM

Projection, anyone?

Don't hate, man. And don't think anyone hates you, either. Here's something that will undoubtedly come as a news flash to you: You aren't important enough to hate. Neither am I, for that matter. Or most anyone.

Let that sink in before you post this kind of claptrap again. Ranting on about how you're hated, hated, hated by someone who's never met you or heard of you is the kind of projective device that Jung would eat up.

Greetings and salutations. I see you have come across my final words. Even now, as I write my final manuscript I know my fate has been sealed. I must ask you, the distinguished reader, one final request, for you must become the bearer of the most burdening truth. The true secret of Barack Obama.

For many years I have been aware of the festering evil that dwells underneath the skin of the Democratic party. A taint has been rising for centuries, under the guise of false morality. The abhorrent puppet masters of the Liberal agenda have been brewing the destruction of true Americans. The true terror of their diabolical plans shall soon be apparent to all of us.

My apologies, for I digress from my intended statement. I must bring forth the only information that shall set you free from your mind prisons. The entire history of Barack Hussein Obama has been falsified since his demonic conception. Even the rumor of his secret Muslim agenda has been a cover, a diabolical deception. Everything about him has been engineered to fool even the most staunchly conservative American Citizen.

I reveal to you the truth I have discovered about this Satanic ploy. For many years I have been disguising my self as one of the mindless Liberal hordes. I rose up in their demonic caste. For many years the wool had been pulled over my eyes by what could only be supernatural deception.

I almost started to believe even the most inspid lies I was fed. I started to gorge myself on them like the cattle around me. Fortunately, by the grace of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior one day I was invited to what seemed like an innocuous private dinner with Barack Hussein Obama, and his most trusted lieutenants.

The night started deceptively pleasant as usual. Dancing, drinking, and merriment was had by all. However, slowly the people around me began to transform. Their skin darkened, their faces began inhuman distortions, their voices filled with snake-like contempt, some even started to speak in demebonic tongues. The men began to pair in homosexual couples, and started to fornicate in the most vile ways imaginable. I was stricken with terror in my seat at the table, unable to break my gaze from the unspeakable horrors I was witnessing before my eyes.

I secretly clenched my bible; hidden on my lap under the table. The the Lord Jesus Christ Our Eternal Savior blessed me with his divine strength, and I did not reveal my true Christian soul to them.

Suddenly, Barack Hussein Obama emerged from what I could only guess was his lair; connected to the depths of Hell itself. He had shed his human illusion, revealing the most horrifying creature beyond imagination. He stood 10 feet tall and appeared to have enough muscle to weight a ton, his skin was dark red with massive purple blood vessels snaking through-out. "the FEAST shall now COMMENCE," he bellowed in tones so deep only a whale could match.

It was now that the most horrifying scene that I had ever witnessed came to pass. Demonic minions rolled out a massive stone table. I stared in shock at what was laden upon it. Hundreds of freshly aborted fetuses writhed on the table screaming in a cachophony of suffering and terror. The hordes shrieked with inhuman glee and began the carnal feast, swallowing fetii whole.

Barack Hussein Obama cackled endlessly from his massive stone throne. His demonic passions too fervent to be satisfied by the fetuses on the table. He would periodically reach into the wombs of his pregnant female Christan prisoners. "Soon we shall be free to abort as many unborn Christian soldiers without fear of divine avengements!" He chortled menacingly.

How I managed to escape without losing my Christian values I never know. But I know what I witnessed with my own eyes, and now you know as well. I can only pray that you are lifted to heaven before the demonic reign of Barack Hussein Obama comes to pass.

Even as I type this I can hear the possesed minions of Barack Hussein Obama pounding at my door. They are eager to feast on my pure Christian flesh. I only have a few more moments before I will be violently torn asunder, my body consumed viciously by the frothing maw.

i have run out of time they are here god bless you all

Posted by: og at October 27, 2008 4:02 PM

I don't know, but with all his cash, Bama can certainly afford a decent looking woman for God's sake. Michelle is utterly repugnant. They need to put a bag over that head. This would be cool: Bammola and Palin bumping uglies. They would make a great team, the Shyster and the Book Burner. They could make a porno movie and sell millions. Well, maybe not millions but it sure would be a regular laugh riot to watch. She'd probably beat him up afterwards. Then, Michelle the Harpy could plunge out of the sky and rescue his narrow ass. Hey, Hollywood, a story is begging to be told. They could make a whole new series around the Bama Palin household, with Michelle the Gargoyle ever watching from it's perch across the street. Man, Fox, hey, pay attention. This would be bigger than Married with Children. Every once in a while you'd get strange cousins from out of town visiting. Like, Karl Rove could play Bama's long, lost brother. Ginger Lynn and Palin could have a torrid affair while Bama sticks it to the neighbor (played by Jimmy Carter). Their kids could be played by Gary Coleman and Ana Paquin (who, of course, are also lovers). I'd drink beer to this series, that's for sure. Oh to dream.

Posted by: Joan of Argghh! at October 27, 2008 6:37 PM

Quite a leap you're making there PeggyU ... Do you seriously mean to suggest that poking fun at someone's words is suddenly on the same plane as violent infantile fantasies? FWIW I personally am so NOT about effigies and guillotines! I'm a liberal democrat ferchrissake, (something I share with the US constitution, I gather). So that's kind of a straw man argument you've got there, excuse the pun. Anyway, I don't want to seagull this blog more than cosmic justice demands ... just passing through, courtesy of the Hewitt award nomination on Sully's blog, but glad we could share this moment. It's been real (Did I just say real? who'm I kidding?)

But hey, that's your choice. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that you're just too insignificant to be of any importance.

Need proof? Just look at the number of comments you usually get on your blog: a woefully small number of fellow paranoids in your group circle-jerk. You ought to thank Sullivan and Wolcott for giving you a brief glimpse of fame!

Enjoy it while it lasts, before you subside back into the muck of obscurity.

Dear Red States:

If you manage to steal this election too, we’ve decided we’re leaving.
We
intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States
with us. In case you aren’t aware, that includes California, Hawaii,
Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinoisand all the
Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and
especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahomaand all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of
Liberty. You get Dollywood.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.

We get 85% of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get
Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay
their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the
ChristianCoalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a
bunch
of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war,
and
we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraqat once. If you
need
people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re
apparently
willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if
you
don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do
wish
you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not
willing
to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the
country’s fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92%
of
the nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s quality wines, 90% of all
cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and soybeans
(thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods,
sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus
Stanford,
Cal Tech, Johns Hopkins, and MIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88%
of
all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of all
U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes,
99%
of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush
Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We also get Hollywoodand Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually
swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we’re
discussing
the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only
a
theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy
bastards
believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Peace out,

Blue States

No one man, or party can truly be held responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks, except for Osama, and his Taliban. Many policies and (in)actions under multiple administrations led to the outcome.

Please don't use the victims of 9/11 for your political arguments. It's distasteful, and disrespectful. These people have suffered enough already without someone like you spinning the cause of their tragedy, to support your political agenda. You have an air of smug superiority, but you resort to dirty attacks and contempt filled rhetoric. Grow a soul.

Posted by: HorribleLiberal at October 27, 2008 7:15 PM

BamaBubba, it was Clinton who paved the way for 9/11 with his policies that chose to view acts of war as mere criminal acts. Or do you not remember the Cole bombing, or the first bombing of the WTC and how that was "prosecuted"?

But I'm guessing you were maybe 2 years old when Clinton was Pres. And you're really not into recent history as a study subject.

Guess they didn't receive your letter. How else to explain the complete lack of action or planning on their part between November of that electoral year and the following September?

Wow. You are a freak. I can tell that you've done absolutely no reading of any kind except for McCain's talking points. If you had, I doubt you would ever think this way about Barack Obama. What I see when I read this is HOW MUCH YOU HATE HIM. Not for any of the reasons listed above, but because you're ideal world is about to end. A black man is going to be president, that scares you. The middle class will again be given its due and the rich will not be given a free ticket, you hate that and you think it socialism. I think what's been going on is imperialism. Make the rich richer, get rid of the middle class and then treat the lower class any way you want. Do you actually like Palin? No one of any intelligence has continued to back her up because she's the most ignorant person ever to run for VP. She's a religious fanatic, intolerant of any other view point or religion other then her own. Are you at all patriotic? Because Palin's husband was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for years, and Palin spoke at their convention. Are you against domestic terrorism? Because Palin thinks it's ok to blow people up and kill them if they work at an abortion clinic, or even an OBGYN clinic that also does abortions. Your insults and your rage are sad. Whats most sad, i guess, is that I seriously doubt if Obama will ever hear your name and for sure will never hate you. Maybe you'd like him to because his hatred of you would vindicate your hatred of him.

available Democrats they selected a candidate that

racial upset for many many white Americans, has a
name that scares those exact same white
Americans...

Obama was selected just so that people, like the
poster of this blog, would lose their minds.

Are you seriously insinuating that Obama was picked by the dems. You do know that there was a primary election and people chose him. This sounds like some weird conspiracy theory.

Oh, change. You're just too much for most people. They'd rather suffer what they know then risk the unknown, even if it makes more sense.

Nobody is as "lucky" as Obama is by accident.

Personally, I think he's a hollow shell inhabited by money, means, and ends that we can't even imagine.

But that Obama hates is completely obvious. And just like the media is now noticing Bill Clinton's hatred and faults, they'll eventually see Obama's. Too late for us, and more's the pity.

Feh. What do the children know? They ingest and replay everything and mistake it for "knowledge". And just like children, they record everything, but have no idea how to interpret the events.

Obama has hated the principles this country is founded upon since he was old enough to read. Indoctrinated in Indonesia, he thinks his mission is to redistribute the wealth, rather than foster a capitalist system where anyone who is willing to work can achieve some measure of wealth.

This is all made possible by permitting those on the government dole to vote. Of course they are going to vote for more "free" government benefits. This beautiful experiment in republicanism is about to come crashing down.

By the way koolaidred, if I have to be butt-raped to be redeemed, I'll take my chances otherwise.

The new Civil War is at hand. The elite, the brain dead youth, and the illegals and Marxists against US.

I'm not sure if I'm ready, but, if the sonsabitches come knocking on my door, I'll give it my best "shot".

Posted by: Hoot Gibson at October 29, 2008 2:03 PM

Ah yes, enjoyed the cranky screed, stayed for the concentrated lunacy in the comments. It amazes me that most of the people that decry your take on an Obama presidency, want him to win so that he will FIX us right-thinking people. I don't what will be involved in the fixing but I don't like the idea one bit.

Posted by: Pooter T. Nutjob at October 29, 2008 4:06 PM

Probably a stay at Chateau Obama, the newest re-education camp, complete with scrubs, no lace slippers and a canvas "I Love Me" jacket that fastens up the back. No to mention Thorazine and EST, so we're "compliant".

Dude! I second Denny's comment.

You musta really touched a nerve somewhere.

Dear Blue States,

Don't be too quick to claim all that real estate. Remember, we have all the guns.

Love,

The Red States

Posted by: Joe the Blogger at October 29, 2008 6:51 PM

Well that was a great piece of writing. Kudos.
As far as your libtard comments, obviously the KO's kids have found someone that doesn't toe the line for Obama... They show up everywhere like Obama told his minions to do.."get in their face" Eventually though someone in the Obama camp or Camp fucknozzle as I have named them, will make a mistake and "Get in the face" of the wrong red state survivalist that has no problem gutting a varmint for food.

Keep up the good work

peggyu: peg, peg, peg. present the facts *first*, then insult. like i did. hoosierboy and i were having a civil discussion of american agronomy. i even spotted hboy a coupla points by giving him the top 5 states. i coulda stopped at california, which has around 3 x the ag exports of #2 state iowa.

Robert: Nope, not edible. Perhaps burnable? Fold in half to fit in the fireplace. Mebbe they make good bookends or draft stoppers. Just kick one up against the bottom of the door to keep the cold air out.

I've been reading Vman for years; got turned on to him by the late great Rob Smith and have only been disappointed by the low number of posts. However, the quality has been great; always a thought provoking good laugh.

For this post - time alone will tell if Vman is right. The simple fact is that there has been very little information provided by Obama for those the commenters to form such strong positive opinions about him. The best they could do is be neutral. Obviously they're not and that in itself is a real cause for concern.

Finally, Blue State's threat of secession - that was decided in 1865 rightly or wrongly. When McCain wins they best not think about it as Petraeus will be sent to surge their sorry asses.

Thanks and keep posting.

Posted by: Guaman at October 30, 2008 4:58 AM

What a great write up. Hat Tip to you V-Man.
It is time to hold our weapons close and prepare our own ass for the Obamanation.
God help us all.

Posted by: Big Mark at October 30, 2008 5:59 AM

Spot on, ole boy. When all the stupid libs have Obama take their houses and property, maybe they will see the light. Change is all they will have left. In their pockets.

Posted by: vetfromhell at October 30, 2008 9:35 AM

Um...."I mention this because I firmly believe Barack Obama absolutely loathes my kind"....

by your 'kind' do you mean clinically psychotic?

Either you are lying in this post...which is almost certainly the case...

...or, when nothing that you predict comes to pass, which it certainly will not, your 'fundament' will shatter and leave you fetal.

Seriously, decontextualize this post from the overdetermined election....and replace 'Obama' with 'your boss'...don't you think that if someone you knew were sputtering this nonsense about their boss, and actually believed any of it, that you would seriously question their sanity?

Posted by: Michael at October 30, 2008 2:07 PM

Unlike those who question his character, I have no telepathic insight into Mr. Obama's intentions. But I have watched him, and read about him intensely, so I think I can reflect his positions as these:

Obama doesn't hate white people, he loves them, they are literally his family.

Obama doesn't hate conservatives, he worked as a professor at the University of Chicago, a conservative academic bastion, and has the support of many old school fiscally conservative republicans.

Obama doesn't even hate you for your ignorance.

Real Americans don't have sour grapes after an election, they realize that the genius of our system allows everyone another try at power, e.g. Richard Nixon.

You supported Bush, and Bush's extreme policies have ruined the country. The resurgence of the democratic party is a testament to the genius of our founding fathers, one side screws things up, someone else gets a chance to do better.

That's the American way.

Posted by: feckless at October 30, 2008 2:08 PM

That was pretty cool. I wish it were all true.

Posted by: Rich at October 30, 2008 2:23 PM

"I fervently believe, however, that not one person to hold that office has ever hated his opposition."

I'm sure you do. I don't know what your reasons are, but it could be connected to the fervent belief that This New Liberal Is Definintely Way Way Worse than All Previous Liberals! This one, for sure, is going to institute a totalitarian dictatorship. Really! Except he'll hate us while he's doing it, too. Awesome write up.

"When all the stupid libs have Obama take their houses and property, maybe they will see the light."

And if Obama doesn't do that, we'll still have Veliociworld, still standing up and *saying the exact same thing* about how Obama is like Pol Pot and Stalin. He's really touched a nerve! Before when I read that Obama was going to be like Stalin, I thought, "Nah." But now that people are saying to V-World "You're a moron," I'm starting to reconsider. In fact I'll be on the lookout for any sign that the U.S. isn't a totalitarian state after Obama is elected (if he is); because then I'll know with all the more surety that it is! Obama won't fool me.

"Indoctrinated in Indonesia..."

He was indoctrinated in Indonesia to advocate...wait for it...standard progressive taxation schemes advocated by the mainstream of the Democratic party (and by McCain as of a few years ago). You know, socialist stuff. Except that he learned his American liberalism in a very Muslimy, foreigny kind of way. Which is a lot more scary.

"The best they could do is be neutral."

I agree. Maybe Obama will be like Stalin, maybe he'll be more like Pol Pot. I'm even open minded enough that I'll admit he may be no worse than Castro. I fervently believe that he hates us, but who knows? I'm not like these mindless dogmatic Obama worshippers who think he might be a typical Democratic political figure.

Talking about the coming totalitarianism is really fun. The stuff about heading for the hills with guns is great too. Wheee! It's what makes me keep coming back to V-World. That and his Fervent Beliefs Series in American History. If I didn't have that I'd be watching Red Dawn again and again every other night. But right now I've got to take a break from Armageddon and catch up on LSU's chances this weekend. Later, friends!

When you write extreme things, you should take responsibility for it. Please pledge that two years from today you will re-read what you have prophetized. And please state the extreme measures you will take in atonement in case you prove to be wrong. Otherwise you are a sniveling coward.

Posted by: wbs at October 30, 2008 2:48 PM

When I first read this, I thought it was some fiction - sort of like how liberal's like to portray gung-ho conservatives, ala George C. Scott in Dr. Strangelove. "Oh those conservatives are SO nutty". It's actually a fairly well written parody, for all that.

But poking around, it seems, that this ISN'T a joke.

Huh.

Well, enough has been said above about projection - suffice to say, you should gather evidence for all the hate and sexual depravity that you fantasize lives in Obama.

But really, he's a liberal, that's all. They've been around for 80 years, they'll continue to be around.

You don't do any cause you serve well, by this.

Unless of course, this is an elaborate sort of put-on.

If so, I'm waiting for the post that says "Psych! Got ya!".

Feckless? that was either the funniest tongue in cheek piece in the world (claiming Vman doesn't know what Obama is thinking, but that you DO) or you are the most obtuse fucktard that ever trod shoe leather.

I know which way I'm betting.

Damn, JC, you come along and top him while I'm typing my comment! Sheesh.

So this IS parody!

This isn't parody.

This IS parody!

I'm going to flip a coin, I think...

See Og,

Your comment is spot on - "that was either the funniest tongue in cheek piece in the world (claiming Vman doesn't know what Obama is thinking, but that you DO) or you are the most obtuse fucktard that ever trod shoe leather.

I know which way I'm betting. "

But regarding THE ORIGINAL POST.

I know which way I'm betting too.

they really don't know satire when they see it, huh?

No, they don't, Supergurl. Just ask the editors at The New Yorker.

As one left-of-center pointed out, should Obama win, expect a "Volcano of McVeighs." Well, you're the first literary one I see.
