I don't normally link to someone who has been kindly to me, or my work, but sometimes someone takes the merest snot trail of an idea I lazily throw out there, and does something amazing with it. Embarrasses me with real thought instead of my throw away, disposable garbage.
Read Skippy on Richard Russell, and the Conservative Democrats. And he's Canadian. Should put us to shame that he understands our heritage better than we do. It did me.
Go Canada! :)
I love Skippy - he's a regular read for me. I think I found him via Elisson awhile back.
Posted by: Chickie at July 8, 2007 9:49 PMYou're entirely too kind. I should point out that I wouldn't have written my overly long opus on Russell at all without your inspiration. I wouldn't have had the context. And knowing that kind of shit hasn't ever gotten me laid. Not once.
As to American culture, Canadians tend to have a pretty good understanding of it that Americans sometimes don't. Probably because we look and sound like you, but are outside of your national experience. Not many folks know to this very day that the "quintessentially American" group The Band was actually four-fifths Canadian and that songs like The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" were written by a Toronto boy.
Or I might just be a sexless geek with too much time on his hands. Who can say for sure?

Posted by: rankin' rob at July 9, 2007 4:20 PMI love the interconnectivity of the Bloggy-Sphere. Elisson - Velociman - Skippy - Kevin Kim (Big Hominid's Hairy Chasms) - Rory (What Not To Do In Australia) - Elisson. Ome big, nutty, weirdly disparate family.
Great posts, both two of ya. It's nice to see what happens when a writer comes up with one take on a subject, and then another writer examines that same subject from another perspective. Kinda like the six blind men and the elephant: you may not have any idea what the elephant really looks like, but you have some great stories about that thick-skinned muthafucka.

Great blog. I put you on my blogroll. I found youu through Shadowscape's blogroll. Take it easy.
