QUERY

As I converse with Mephistopheles tonight on the ultimate residence of my corrupted soul, I am still confused: is it staved, or stove? I use both, as the mood strikes me. You?

At any rate, when your heart is punctured, as opposed to your garage door, I would go with staved. Just my thought on the matter.

"when your heart is punctured" I'd go with "fucked"

I think staved in is probably correct, but damn, stove in sounds so much better! Much more dramatic!

actually, I think stove IS right....

but either way, og is right, you're fucked.

poked. The word is poked.

I thought it was "screwed."

Ha -- Og's got it!
Staved is grammatically correct, I do believe, but sometimes only stove will do, as in "That [expletive deleted] is ALL stove up. Picaresque, as it were. As you would know.

... stove... definitely... as in stoved in.... I can relate..

On reflection (had to go to the mall, no mirrors in Chez Og) i believe Staved or Stove in either event would refer, not to the ticker, but to ribs or the rib cage, as a barrel stave, so staved is probably correct.

"fucked" is still my choice.

Back then, she would have staved you in the heart before you knew what to think. (Past-perfect)

She stove your heart, the bitch. (past tense)

Your heart is now stoved-in. (cracker adjective)

Depends on whether you're cooking or not, I suppose.

Had to laugh at the comment above. Looks like you are well and truly glued to the word "fucked", old man. ;>)

Stove....However, in England, they call it a "cooker".

Posted by: Jim - PRS at January 21, 2006 6:31 PM

Stiven.

Both are correct with "staved" usually refering to a person's ribs. "Stove" usually refers to damage to a boat, wooden barrel, or cask. "Stove" can be either present or past tense.

When my first ole lady kicked me in the balls I was "stove up" for a couple of days. I' staved up late a lot of nights trying to figure a way to get even.

.. so, how is old Mephistopheles these days?... after I kicked his ass at pool last Wednesday, he hasn't called me back...

Posted by: Eric at January 23, 2006 10:21 AM

Stove......or Steven if you happen to lean that way.
