PERCOLATION

Usually when I mention things of a percolating nature I'm either talking about my rage percolating just below the surface, ready to erupt on some unsuspecting soul, or I'm talking about conversation with a civil engineer as we kick cinders walking the grounds of a new construction site, he discussing having to drive pipes into the ground to percolate the moisture out, me nodding knowingly, wondering what the hell he's talking about.

But all this talk of percolation has driven me to a nostalgia moment, whereby I miss my coffee percolator. Everyone knows drip coffee sucks, and yet we all drink it. But you can shove your espressos, and cappuccino makers, I want another percolator.

As a wee lad I would anxiously watch my mother's percolator blub blub blub, the mixture cascading upon itself again and again, enriching the fuel. Oh, yeah. I wasn't allowed to drink coffee at five years of age, but I knew I wanted to, just as if I'd been watching a Turkman prepare a hookah I'd be craving the hashish (well, that happened anyway, Turkman be damned).

In a patented around my elbow to get to my ass post, I beseech: anyone know where to get a great percolator? I can find plenty of spleevy upscale Give me your riches Pottery Barn whore stick my Williams up your Sonoma fancy assed percolators, but I'd like some real world feedback. I haven't owned one since my elder daughter was a lass.

Who makes a kick ass perc? I'd prefer a stove top style, but I need a plug-in so that I can use a timer, me being a man of blank stare and unsteady gait in the morning. I need my high test ready to go when I rouse.

A little help? I've given you so much over the years. You have returned so little. Help me here, and all is forgiven.

I don't know jack-squat about coffee other than what the barista wench at Starbucks tells me, but this list looks like a winner:

I dunno. As cool as percolators are, I love my coffee press.

If I recall, Farberware makes a good percolator - but the onliest one we own is a humongous 100-cup West Bend jobbie we use for the days the entire 82nd Division shows up on our front lawn.

Me, I fuckin' loathe percolated coffee. Overextracted and harsh. But if you like the taste of creosote and sweat socks, go for it. As they - whoever the fuck "they" are - say, De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum. That's Latin for "Your Coffee Blows."

I purchased an electric percolater at Target a few months ago and it works quite nicely. However, if you're looking for an old fashioned original type percolator then ebay is the place to go........

saw one at Wal Mart just this week, 12 cup size.

The little bride bought ours at a flea market. It's a nice set that looks like a silver coffee set with the matching cream and sugar and tray. They're fairly common and inexpensive (methinks $30) and it works very well. Just make sure the cord is in good shape. But you knew that...

Coffee aficionados will tell you percolation is the quickest way to ruin good coffee. Supposedly, if you actually like the taste of coffee, a French press style or vacuum style pot is best. The vacuum style is actually pretty cool, while low-tech at the same time. The steam from the water creates a vacuum that sucks the water up onto the coffee, and then releasing the vacuum sends the brew down into the pot. Bodum.com is the place to go for one.

But, if you're an unrepentant drinker of such sludge as Maxwell House or Folgers, perc away. Ebay is your place.

Yuppie fuckers. If you would have said anything about one, I would have given you one of mine, I have three old ones, Cat

Nummmmyyy, coffee. Over the campfire, percolated over the coals for way to long, while out in the boat. Reheated with a drop or two of whiskey, to even out the rich flavors, and legitimize the burn as it rolls down to warm the innards.

You want the one that almost electrocuted me? In great condition, cept for the black handprint.

I've been seeing new-fangled prcolators pop up on store shelves as of late.

I'm thinking of purchasing a cordless jobbie saw. Pretty cool, with a charging stand.

I can't remember where I originally saw it, but Sears carries it too.

Of course, if you'd like to take a drive down memory lane before spending the hundred bucks, you can get models for around $40 too.

Farberware. 12 cupper'll cost ya around 30 bux at Sears, Target, Wally World, wherever. Your great grandkids will still be makin' coffee in it long years after you're done being worm food.

Make your coffee any way you damn please, it's your coffee, ain't it? I like mine boiled in a sauce pan, and the grounds settled out with a chunk of egg shell. No movin' parts.

Hmmm... WTFever happened to my little aluminum 'over-the-campfire' percolator? Used it for years, til the girls got too cool to go camping and once they got in college who had the time OR the $$?
Here ya go -- $9.99 on EBay!

I could not agree more. We have no electricity at our hunting camp, just gas lamps. Therefore the coffee is perculated in old aluminum pots. It is the best coffee although I do believe the entire ambiance the woods helps as well. I think I will bring one home next time though just to make sure.

Farberware perc is the best...electric is fine and very easy....These pots last forever and so does the flavor in each cup made...BUT...the key is to any good cup is the quality of the beans...or grounded coffee...they are the key to any good brewing......

~ I recv'd a Farberware 12 cup as a gift in 01'.
- It was *The ONLY Made in U.S.ofA. percolater that my sister could find anywhere & she knew that was Very Important! to me.
~ The 'bad' part is that the basket has a bunch of radially spaced 'half-shears' as opposed to holes to allow the water to drain back. The space is To Large & allows Quite a bit of grounds to migrate into th brew which I dont much care for. By simply adding new grid on top of the old in subsequent pots;
-the 'grounds in coffee' problem is eliminated, + is a bit more economical.
1/2 good & 1/2 bad is that:
*Every Day since 6/01, it perk'd a Quart of coffee reliably 5+! times a day, it shorted out internally 2 days ago is the bad part, & search w/Dogpile for a new percolater is how I stumbled across this site.
* These Coffee Deficiency headachs are a `Mutha` I tell yas!
BTW:
- Have had 3 of the ones w'mart sells b4 the Farberware(4get brand) which are an American name but made in chinkdom ALL WENT BAD in Less then 2 months!
~ Sears carries the Farberware brand so I guess I'll saddle-up & ride off for another since I will NOT!!!
- Buy Anything made by
*Forced Child Slave Labor if a
*MADE IN USofA alternative is avail.
Good thing I've got the Farberware
Espress-o/cupachino maker to get by w/ until `quantity` perking infrastructure replacement equipment is obtained.
Suns comming up, have a good day PerkHeads.

Sears doed NOT stock perks of any type in a busy home/sml appliance area check'd.
In 'desperation'[LnOL;-);
-I got a GE el-Cheapo($38+tx)
StainlessSteel, 950W, 12cup at WchinkMart.
*It does NOT Work, so:
Anything 'potentially good' has no reason.
Is a *Design Prolem, meaning: Even `if` not a defective unit;
-waste of time.
Making *Functional percolators is seeming beyond Chinese ability.

Dont that make you 'fee good' knowing of `zillions` of nuke powered
satellites they've got in un-stable orbits flying over every 18.96637 min?
