A DIFFERENT WORLD

And so Velocidaughter 1 turned 18 Monday. That is a sobering experience for a dad. Took the family to lunch, and let her go wilding that night, which consisted of watching a movie with her boyfriend and his parents. Because she is a peach. A perfect specimen of young ladyhood. Her whole future she is mapping. And good sound decisions. Headed to Florida State next fall, intent on setting the world on fire. How can this be?

I sat her down, at one point, and explained to her that with the age of majority comes many responsibilities, but also rights and privileges heretofore denied her. Rights and privileges that carry great gravitas, that must be respected. And then I gave her $50, and asked her to go buy me two cartons of cigarettes.

"No way, old man!" she said.

Yep. We've somehow managed to raise a star.

Congratulations. When I turned 18, my dad handed me a sawbuck and told me to fetch him a young bottle of Cutty Sark. Some things never change.

Mazeltov, V-Man. Congrats on having one of your progeny reach Semi-Adulthood.

You're now approaching the minimum point on the Perceived Parental Intelligence Curve. As time moves on, your Brain-Wattage, as measured by Velocidaughter 1, will likely increase.

Unfortunately, for Velocidaughter 2, you are at that point on the curve where your smarts is something on the order of a Badly Polished Turd. It'll take a few years before you hit bottom and start climbing out of the Dead-Brain Hole.

S'ok. Had I reproduced with the Ice princess, all those years ago, my offspring would now be entering middle age. So don't feel too bad. In fact, congratulate yourself for having gotten this far sans the usual ulcers.

Would you allow her to date ME?

Posted by: Acidman at December 22, 2005 9:56 PM

Fuck no, Rob. Sorry. You asked. You are a damned rock n roller. She be dating maestros, or something.

Got something in the mail today with two beautiful young ladies on it. Thank you!

; )

Merry Christmas!

The reason that she said NO, V-Man, is that $50 won't buy two cartons of smokes. Had you given her a cool C-note, she might have complied.

Wait a minute...how much are smokes down there? They run about $42/carton here in Montana, thanks to our nearly year-old one-dollar-per-pack increase on the smoke tax.

... congrats to the daughter, man..

Hell, Congrats to YOU Vman. I got a daughter of my own. All they've got to do is survive, we've got to provide. Some will say "set the example". I do, it's just the example I set is an example of what NOT to do. So far, it's workin'.

Have a very Merry Christmas man.

I'm not even gonna ask about the datin' thing. That would make my father in law YOU. Screw that. ;) The though of hearin' you call me "son" frankly scares the livin' shit out of me.

It's so bizarre, watching all the children around us grow up, and not really 'getting it' that we're growing older right alongside them.

Trust me, it takes quite some time to sink in that you have, somehow, through everything, managed to raise a thoughtful, creative, beautiful young woman to adulthood.

I mean...how can that be? We can't be more than thirty, can we?

I've yet to accept the fact that I have a twenty-one year old.

Well, congratulations on raising a fine daughter to the threshold of adulthood. And keep in mind...

You'll always be 'daddy' in her eyes.
