I really should have mowed my lawn today instead of cracking open a bottle and watching Master & Commander four times in a row today, however, I have an excuse. It's somewhere, in one of these pockets. Let me get back to you.
Posted by Velociman at May 7, 2005 4:34 PMMy God, man, have you yet seen the eight Horatio Hornblower films from A&E? They're on DVD. Buy them all NOW!
Posted by: Mark Alexander at May 7, 2005 5:15 PMLast time I "beat to quarters" it involved a naked drinking game.........
M&C is a good flick however, 'cept for that damned naturalist fool. Coulda gunned the frog in the bay and been done with it.
Posted by: bitterman at May 7, 2005 7:11 PMI have yet to see a good rockem sockem ship battle movie, though M&C comes very close. I just want swashes to be buckled, and throats to be cut, and wenches to be violated. I want Blackbeard, his hair still on fire, sodomizing the dying corpus of the other ships captain, he being lashed to the wheel.
Cutthroat Island had potential, but less blood than my recent dental expedition. When the ships were blasting each other point blank, and there were no guts and blood, I would have walked out then and there had I not been so drunk.
I would like to see a good sea battle movie made on the Bismarck's career (and demise), too. That would kick ass, if done correctly.
None of this Cuba Gooding fuckshit, firing crimped blank rounds everywhere (mostly at his own shipmates) while his apron flaps in the wind.
I came out of that wanting to stomp the living guts out of the cutest puppy I could find, or of a doe-eyed orphan.
Posted by: Bane at May 7, 2005 8:16 PMAhh, yes.
I found it that satisfying...(is that right)?
Anyway.
Nice.
Posted by: Gina at May 7, 2005 11:17 PMGood movie,,,I think,,,maybe.
Posted by: Yabu at May 8, 2005 5:45 PMOK, a little Horatio Hornblower might be on tap for my next read. Starting a the beginning, eh Mr. Midshipmen? - ds
Posted by: Dishonorable Schoolboy at May 9, 2005 11:31 AMI never tire of watching Master and Commander. Excepting the Good the Bad and the Ugly, I have seen it more than any other movie.
If they will replace the hobbit who played Barrett Bonden, Aubrey's coxswain, I believe the next one will grade out perfect.
