I've always been fascinated by the concept of imprinting. The fact that when a baby duck hatches the first thing it sees it imprints on. That thing becomes its mama, its guidon bearer. It will follow it anywhere.
I have a theory. I believe when I was born the first thing I saw was Rod Serling on a hospital television set in a Twilight Zone episode. A few holes in this theory, but it explains more than it does not.
I saw several baby ducks that adopted a dog as mama. It was funny as hell to watch those little quackers following that dog around everywhere it went. The dog didn't seem to mind.
I think I "bonded" with a bottle of liquor when I was born.

Well, not my mom's.
That I can remember.
Without hypnotherapy.

Posted by: Sam at April 23, 2005 1:31 AMFunny, my bartender and I were having just such a confab, yesterday. I had introduced the concept of selling advertising to be imprinted on automobile's airbags. Subliminal, as it were. She wondered aloud how a deploying air bag would treat a person's face who was wearing glasses. We pondered that silently, for a few. We decided it would not be a good thing, though I opined that it would be humorous to have a picture of Satan lunging at you imprinted on the bag.
She, alas, did not concur. Probably Catholic.
