Ephemeral

1. Lasting for a markedly brief time: “There remain some truths too ephemeral to be captured in the cold pages of a court transcript” (Irving R. Kaufman).

2. Living or lasting only for a day, as certain plants or insects do.

3. A markedly short-lived thing.

Ephemeral. That's a hell of a word. There's no synonym for it. But there are plenty of instances to use it.

... I always thought that had something to do with an artery in your leg...

How about "fleeting?" I tend to always use the two words together, but it's really double-talk...you know, just me showing off.

See? There I go again.

I will grudgingly give you "fleeting", Sadie, but be aware if you are ever in the lobby bar at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis at 2 AM "ephemeral" works a little better than "fleeting". Just a rule of thumb. We work together here.

I had a really good comment to write here, but it was ephemeral. It flew away like a butterfly.

I'm sure mrs v-man could give us a fine example of the meaning of the word!!!!

I don't think I like that meaning. I'm changing it to "dream-like." That fits.

I thought it was an expletive about a TV chef. Ephemeral and the horse he rode in on.

A quote I've seen attributed to Eugene Ionesco is, "Only the ephemeral is of lasting value."
