I cannot believe what Best Buy just did to me. I returned the bum scanner, and the girl told me she'd have to charge me because I had forgotten the power cord. Fair enough. Just credit me when I drop it off. But then she pulled the power cord out of the Epson I was purchasing as a replacement, and put it with the old scanner. She was holding part of the new scanner hostage.
"Bitch? What the fuck are you doing?" (I was not in a nurturing mode). She said I could get the power cord to the new scanner when I returned the cord for the old one.
"Wait," I said. "These are two separate transactions. A return, and a purchase. You can charge me for the old cord, but you can't hold the new cord hostage. Doesn't work that way." That's the way it is, she said.
I went ballistic. Told her precisely what I thought of her chunkrolled ass and her company. Used the dreaded C word in the process, I'm afraid. She won the battle, of course, and I had to make another trip to Orange Park to retrieve my new cord.
I'll win the war, though. After scanning some pics I'm returning the Epson. I'll buy a new one at Circuit City. Then I'm going to buy $2,000 worth of merchandise from the three Best Buys around town, and irrevocably damage it all before returning it. I'll also never buy another damned thing from Best Buy, except for the $20 gift certificate that came with the Epson. I bought Taxi Driver when I fetched my cord, and I may just get a Mohawk to put me in proper temper before executing my revenge. Fucking assholes. The Velocicustomer is always right! I think I can get that fat bitch fired, too.
I hope and pray that Best Buy won't let that kind of a crap policy stand. Holding things hostage? I don't think so! Bix Box Bullshit. If the manager gives you any agita, I suggest Clark Howard.
My blood would be boiling. I think your plan for handling this whole thing sounds remarkably un-medieval. Civilized. You go, boy.

They have no clue as to the VelociFu**in' they're about to receive do they now?
Tear 'em a new one Senator's son.
I'm just amazed.
I've never received anything but great customer service from Best Buy, and my HP products have worked very well.
It seems as if the Velociman may have laid hands on some bad juju.
A ritual sacrifice may be in order.
Posted by: jmflynny at January 30, 2005 4:50 PMThere are a few chickens down the road by the trailer park. If I can grab one I'll have a Santeria sacrifice tonight. I want that bitch breaking out in boils and string warts. That will correct the juju, but Best Buy is still on my Shit List.
Posted by: Velociman at January 30, 2005 5:13 PMI told you so.
Posted by: Catfish at January 30, 2005 6:18 PMMy, aren't we in a snit?
Posted by: Michele at January 30, 2005 7:13 PMI've always liked Circuit City. The customer service is better and the prices seem to be about the same as Best Buy.
Posted by: Dash at January 30, 2005 7:15 PMI will never again give Best Buy one cent.
Years ago I bought a modem there. It was on sale because it had been opened. When I installed it, the software wouldn't work, so I looked at it closely.
It was an old 2400 BAUD USRobotics instead of the 56K model I'd paid for.
Best Buy wouldn't give me a refund. Not only that, after I'd called them several times they told me to come in and they'd refund, so I drove over there -- and they refused.
The total of what I'd paid (which was budgeted), paying for a real modem (which was not), and two fairly long trips for bupkis (I live a long way from the nearest Best Buy) meant I didn't eat for a couple of days. Things were thin back then.
I wouldn't waste the diesel to firebomb their store.
Regards,
Ric
Funny, I just cancelled my Best Buy credit card a few days ago for shitty customer service. That's not the end of it, of course, but a satisfying first step.
Guess Best Buy must be going through some "life changes." They can live without my dime (and lots of others, as is evidenced here) while they're doing it.
Posted by: Amy at January 31, 2005 6:06 AMSee, I've always had the reverse. Circuit City has been evil to me on multiple occasions, and Best Buy rocked. I've been boycotting Circuit City for about 15 years. About 2 years ago, I decided to give them another chance- and they blew it.
Posted by: Sean at January 31, 2005 9:05 AMManagement is TRAINED to kiss ass. Gotta ask for the Manager.
Posted by: Key at January 31, 2005 2:16 PMwow. honestly. it's your own fault if you didn't bring the power chord with you and your fault for dealing with a rep rather than asking for a manager. it says right on the receipt to have all of the contents with you when you return it. but the girl was also wrong. she should have turned your item away and said to come back when u have the power chord. she should be disciplined and written up sure, but not fired. that's not justice. but just so you know. if you buy merchandise from them and attempt to return it. their techs test those items out before they accept the return. so u would have just wasted $2000. Also, I don't know if you've been paying attention to the business section of the paper lately, but obviously they can live without your service since their profit just went up a few MILLION OVER what they had predicted, and Circuit City's went DOWN 13 million! I personally like both stores just not moronic customers like yourself who don't read the fine print, and then want to get some one fired and possibly leave them without home and/or food for an unknown period of time (yes it is that serious for some of those workers) because of your neglect for paying attention to detail.
