The Vote

Iraqis are voting today for the first time in over 50 years, if you discount the Saddam or Bullet to the Brain votes of yesteryear. There will be violence, cowardly acts of aggression. But over 8 million Iraqis will cast a ballot to elect a constitutional assembly today.

Someone needs to explain to me again why this is a bad thing.

Pixy shed some light on this the other day. It boils down to a basic logic error on the part of the detractors. To whit;

A good thing done by a bad person is bad.

George Bush is bad, therefore freeing Iraq is bad.

If Jimmy fucking Carter had decided to free Iraq, we would never hear the end about how brilliant and gutsy he was. Of course, Carter was neither brilliant nor gutsy, and did nothing to help anybody on this planet while he was president. Now he hammers nails so his admirers will deem him Christ-like.
Face it - Bush can do no right so far as mainstream media, as controlled by the Anne Cox Chambers and Putz Sulzbergers of the world, is concerned. And as far as his immigration polices are concerned, he can do no right by me, either.
Can you imagine the horror on the left if the Republicans actually nominated a conservative?

It's a bad thing because liberals didn't have the balls to make it happen first. Anything proposed by a conservative automatically carries the Imperialist taint, dontchaknow, even if it results in a 72% turnout in the first democratic elections ever held in a region with a history of tyranny as long as human memory...
