Rob Sama has a great post on the jet packs of the sixties, and some latter day intrique associated with it. I don't want to steal his thunder, but how about that PF Flyers guy? As a snot-nosed eight-year-old I was convinced jet packs for Christmas were only a couple of years away.

Posted by: Alexander at November 6, 2004 3:34 PMhave you tried http://www.futurehorizons.net/jetpacks.htm
it not the best butt the only thing that is going werong with them is the control system and how to power the 2 ducted fans im working on a plan to help get there project rolling its been like that for a long time. so if you have any ideas that are light weight be sure to mention them
i want to know
a) how much is a jetpack
b) have they been manually tested
c) do they affect the ozone layer
d) what age group is required to use a jetpack and why
e) do they do refunds
f) does it have safety buttons or parachutes
g) how long is the reccomended flight time
h) speed limits
i) can you carry a bag whilst flying
j) how much is the protection gear
k) are 13year olds allowed it with adult supervision
l) direction usage..........
m) will we need a licence
n)will we have a proffesional teacher to teach us the usage of the jet pack
I was wondering, how high, far and fast you can fly with one of those things..

Posted by: Mr 99s at May 24, 2005 8:52 AMthe jet pack was devleloped in the late 70s i think and they as far as i know have gotten them to fly about 30 sec. or so and as far as speed not vary fast about 20 maybe thirty
Posted by: ifly at May 24, 2005 9:23 PMcorrection, the jet packs where tested at over 100 mph but they whernt agile enough to control at those speeds
Posted by: ifly at May 24, 2005 9:30 PMI am a jet mechanic student at Desert Vista Aviation, in Tucson Arizona. I think if you are looking for a "jet pack" or a "rocket pack" you will be waiting a very, very, long time.... The fact is, that the "rocket" technology of today is just not up to the challenge. And as for "jet" power, trust me guys you do not want ANY KIND of JET engine straped to your back!!!
If you were able to somehow endure the 150 decibles 12 inches from your head, and you aren't boiled alive by the intense heat, (even from the smallest jet engine that could lift you) you would also need a lot of high pressure hose and a fuel truck to chase you on the ground!!!!!!! It's not uncommon for some jet engines to consume 5 gallons in 60 seconds!!!There is NO WAY you could carry enough fuel to really go anywhere.....
But cheer-up kids, because it may be closer than you think. On the website Futurehrizons.net there is a "jet Pack" (as they call it) that actually has good potetial. It uses fan power (yes like a helicopter) and I think as an aviation student and fellow inventer, that thing will fly before you find a "jet pack" that will fly longer than 30 seconds. Hi,
My name is Prof. Robert De Snezell I am a the head of jet engineering at MIT. A group of my students have spent the past three years developing the jet pack idea. And now finally they have hit upon the solution. For just $5 I will send you the detailed plans. You can send this via Paypal to robert.evans38@Ntlworld.com
Prof. Rob
Just to set the record straight. The Rocket Packs or Rocket Belts are real. Yes they only allow flight for about 30 seconds. Yes they are expensive to build and fly (about 200 per flight). Yes they were developed in the 1960's by Bell for the US ARMY. YES - they really do fly. check out rocketbelt.nl

Posted by: John Hewatt at February 8, 2006 4:18 PMok the jetpack idea is new. its still almost sci-fi. if you really want to fly start designing a jetpack. there are some "jet packs" that use fans to propell you up but they only go up about 3 feet. but can go up to 60 mph.(depending on what design you use.) you cant go and buy jetpacks. they are not for sale. but you can but a propeller pack thing.... they are not jetpacks buy you can float. they are big but at least they work for the most part. if you want to fly your best chance is to buy plans and/or make your own. otherwise go get a plane
Posted by: matt at March 17, 2006 3:14 PMYour all brokeback mountin fans I'll bet. I hear fags likethat movie.
Posted by: Drew Willard at March 24, 2006 1:14 PMok...for the people who are thinking there is no such thing as a jet back, yes there is, there are a number of working systems, however they all cost millions of dollars to design and build. also only one worked well but was very complex and too loud for practical use.
for everyone that wants to fly...get a plane ticket, you I doubt you can aford the multi-million dollar price tag that comes with building one that will actually fly.
Posted by: PYRO at May 29, 2006 5:36 AMThink about this, what engine is lite enough to carry on your back, does not use a lot of fuel, and can left a person (no matter what size)and a fuel or power source off the ground in a controled flight!? I have seen pictures of jetpack type things on that are owned by the Biritish military (I'm not sure, could be USA) but it's huge and I don't think your going to find one for sale. So I guess they are real.
and if I knew the wb site I'd put it on here but I don't, sorry.
Yep U can buy them here for the modest sum of 250.000 USD go here:

And for those none believers of JetPacks check this out http://www.rocketman.org/videogallery.html
And you can also see them in action on www.YouTube.com
A none believer in technology is a sad git that needs too get out more!
Posted by: Rick at October 26, 2006 1:41 PMThere is a jetpack. I remember watching Mythbusters and they tried to build their own. I don't think they should of had $10,000. I think they should of had more. It didn't fly. But there are ones out their that fly. Go to: www.futurehorizons.net/jetpacks.htm. You can buy the plans for $30. The money is used for their researching. Technology has come a long ways and i wouldn't be surprised if you could buy a jet pack in 2010 or later. Be aware, they are not powered by jets but rather ducted fans.
